After three successful editions, Yole Développement is proud to collaborate once again with the China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE) to organize the Forth Executive Forum on LiDAR for Automotive. It will take place on September 16, 2021 in Shenzhen, alongside the 23rd CIOE. This event presents applications and technologies within the LiDAR industry, and more specifically, automotive-oriented solutions.


Since 2017, several car makers have put LiDARs on the road. Audi has made the first move, followed by Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and more recently Honda. In coming years many more car makers will follow the same path and implement automated driving features. The automotive supply chain is therefore getting ready and car manufacturers, Tier-1 part suppliers, and LiDAR suppliers are preparing for the next level of driving. 2021 and 2022 will see the entry of new LiDAR players into the automotive industry, adding to the sector's great diversity.

Optical Transceivers & Silicon Photonics Forum 2021

Yole Développement is proud to collaborate with the China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE) to organize the highly attractive Forum on Optical Transceivers and Silicon Photonics. It will take place on September 17, 2021 in Shenzhen, alongside the 23rd CIOE. This event will explore recent trends in optical module technology and applications for datacom and telecom. Network traffic is forecast to grow exponentially in coming years. This trend affects all segments of network infrastructure in datacenters as well as in long-haul applications. The growth has been driven by newly emerging digital applications. These include the Internet of Things (IoT), including Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), connected homes and cars and services such as streaming Ultra High Definition videos that need higher data throughput. The evolution of these technologies has enabled transmission speed of 400G and beyond in long haul and metro networks. As 400G has ramped-up to mass deployment the question is: What will come beyond 400G? The general goal for future form factors is to reduce their size and thus decrease power consumption and increase density. Trends in players' strategies, future technologies, roadmaps and market forecasts in optical transceivers industry will be presented at this event. Stick around and stay tuned!

3D Sensing for Consumer Forum 2021

Mobile phones are experiencing turbulence, which is affecting 3D imaging and sensing. As 4G upgrades to 5G mobile, phone costs increase, affecting manufacturers' plans to upgrade mobile phone cameras. Meanwhile the trade conflict between China and the United States has also led to a sharp decline in Huawei's mobile phone business and to the rise of Xiaomi, a less innovative player in the context of Mobile 3D sensing. However, these problems are only temporary and local. In 2020, Apple launched the rear-facing 3D camera with direct Time of Flight (dToF) sensing in its iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro. dTOF 3D cameras have innate advantages compared with indirect ToF (iToF) used in Android phones, such as digital dynamic range and response time. From a technology point of view, dTOF will undoubtedly advance the entire 3D sensing market. For the front-facing 3D camera, Apple has continued to use Structured Light and has extended it to the whole series. Android players haven't given up on it either, as the under-screen Structured Light solution has already been demonstrated. In short, the development of technology is further increasing the capacity of the 3D sensing market. It is therefore gaining traction in other consumer electronics products, such as smart homes, vacuum robot cleaners, and smart door locks.
