In 2026, global quantum technology is transitioning from fundamental research to industrial deployment. Quantum technology has become a disruptive force reshaping the global technology landscape, characterized by accelerated iteration, deeper cross-disciplinary integration, and expanding application scenarios. In 2025, milestone progress was achieved across three core areas:
In quantum computing, the team of Pan Jianwei and Lu Chaoyang at USTC successfully constructed a defect-free atomic array of 2,024 atoms, setting a world record and paving the way for fault-tolerant universal quantum computers. In quantum communication, China Telecom and partners completed the world's first ultra-long-distance quantum-classical co-transmission experiment using hollow-core fiber, solving signal interference issues and offering a "China solution" for information security in finance and government. In quantum precision measurement, a USTC team achieved entanglement-enhanced nanoscale single-spin detection under noisy environments for the first time, improving spatial resolution by 1.6 times and providing a sharp probe for quantum materials and life sciences.
In China, quantum information has been designated a major science and technology project concerning national security and development. With the forward-looking layout of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the deep integration of quantum technology with AI, new materials, and biomedicine is becoming a core engine driving leapfrog development in high-end manufacturing, financial security, and life sciences. China currently leads globally in quantum communication, runs alongside in certain quantum computing routes, and is accelerating its pursuit in quantum precision measurement. However, converting technological advantages into industrial strengths and bridging the entire chain from lab to engineering to commercialization remain critical challenges.
The "2026 International Quantum Technology Scientific Frontier Forum" will be held on September 10, 2026, at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center (Bao'an). The forum aims to bring together leading scientists, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore the future of quantum applications, build an open and win-win quantum technology ecosystem, and inject strong momentum into cultivating new quality productive forces.
