As mobile networks upgrade from 4G to 5G, wired optical technology is becoming increasingly important as a transmission carrier for connecting fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul links, and exploring short-distance optical interconnection scenarios for future base stations. This is especially crucial in the 5G-Advanced era, as academia and industry are already researching next-generation optical technology solutions for 5G-A/6G. Amongst the early research focusing on new radio technologies, it can be foreseen that more spectrum resources will be released and developed to meet the increasing bandwidth and connectivity demands of the Internet of Everything. This will continue to drive the need for upgrading optical connections to maintain higher throughput and performance, reduce energy consumption, and support a wider range of network scenarios.
Facing the increasing application scenario requirements of 5G-A, optoelectronics technology is also meeting a new round of opportunities. IPEC gathers industry forces and works with industry colleagues to explore the development direction of advanced optoelectronics technology in the new business environment. Therefore, IPEC, ICCSZ and CIOE jointly hosted the Next-Generation Wireless Fronthaul Standard Industry Forum and MFH50 Standard Release Ceremony, focusing on the next-generation wireless fronthaul requirements, key components of optical modules, components, and end-to-end system applications, and focusing on the future evolution of technologies such as Beyond 50G. Share and exchange ideas on optoelectronic technology and standardization trends.
