Handheld smart imaging devices are consumer-grade portable handheld equipment with built-in computing power, image stabilization and 2K+ resolution, mainly covering action cameras, panoramic cameras and gimbal cameras. Evolving from niche extreme-sport gear, they have become mainstream consumer imaging terminals. Driven by cross-industry participation from smartphone vendors, the global market is booming: IDC records 16.65 million global shipments in 2025 (up 83% YoY) and CNY 46.1 billion in sales (up 86% YoY), while Sullivan projects a 12.9% CAGR during 2023–2027, with the market size expected to hit CNY 59.2 billion in 2027.
The industry is witnessing advancing domestic substitution alongside intensified supply chain competition. High-end CMOS sensors and partial DSP/SoC chips still rely on imports, though domestic manufacturers like Gpixel have entered high-end imaging supply chains, and optical lenses & modules have achieved full localization. Meanwhile, exclusive brand cooperation rules and unstable supply chain resilience remain prominent industry concerns.
Technological bottlenecks still constrain industrial upgrading, including customized high-dynamic and low-power CMOS sensors, miniaturization and yield optimization of molded glass lenses, power-performance balance of core chips, low-latency panoramic stitching algorithms, and high-precision control of miniature stabilization motors. Current competition has upgraded to full-link rivalry integrating chips, optics, algorithms and ecological layout, rather than single hardware innovation.
